Traditional Leaders Get Tough HIV/Aids

Saw an interesting article today on AllAfrica.com about how traditional leaders in central Zambia banned cultural practices they said were fuelling the spread of HIV/AIDS in their chiefdoms. Looks like a good bit of progress...

Classroom roof needed!

You can see here why we need a children's centre. OK, it may be nice in England when you get to have "outdoor lessons" in the summer, but it's a different matter when you are on the plains of Africa! It is very very hot. The children here are some of those that will benefit directly when the centre is finished.

Distributing essential supplies

In the last relief lorry we took over essential supplies for the vulnerable children. We gave each child a pack that consisted of: blanket; towel; bedsheet; clothing; soap; toothbrush and toothpaste. Here you can see some of the children getting these packs - they were delighted - some had never even tasted toothpaste!

Firing the bricks

Jo has returned from the village and brought with her some fantastic photos of the project. Here is a picture of the villagers working together to make the bricks for the children's centre. They have dug the clay from the ground and then they built huge fires to harden them. So far they have made more than 60,000 bricks. Not that we are counting!
